About Me

Hi, I'm Charlotte - I live in LA. I've studied art on and off in the past few years (mostly focusing on 2d digital paintings). I've sort of meandered and had a hard time figuring out what I'd like to pursue. I feel that it's not a bad idea to take some time to explore avenues of interest, but I've taken too long and I'm a fair bit behind a lot of my friends haha.

I graduated undergrad with a STEM degree in 2020. While I was studying, I really wanted to make art. You could find sketches in the margins of my notes, and when I was done with problem sets, I'd be trying out krita or blender on my computer.

Back then, I'd been really interested in concept artists, although it was always the more outsider freelancers with unique styles who were popular on instagram.

After graduating I dove pretty heavily into getting mileage with drawing and rendering while working at a sourdough bakery. I did this for about two years and then AI began to make its first big hits.

I was really discouraged, like I know a lot of people were. It was also around then that the streaming bubble burst and animation was one of the first areas to see massive layoffs. Also a bit later there were a few high profile game studios that were shutdown.

It felt like things just weren't even close to viable. I don't know the state of the art industry or where things are going. I tried to get myself interested in programming, but Elon Musk also bought out Twitter and I realized that a career in tech wasn't much more secure than one in art.

2024 was not a good year for me, in a lot of ways. I hope that 2025 is better. I'm trying a number of things that will hopefully make me feel better, and one of them is making daily art and just posting it here regardless of quality (although I'm going to try to make the best art I can).

Thanks for reading this far haha. If you're ever interested in reaching out, you can send something to jerbaloot@gmail.com.
