Been a bit busy this week with job search and paperwork stuff. But I'm getting into the groove of drawing these figs from reference.
January 31, 2025 | sketch;study
I don't know what I was thinking with this. I wanted to get good at doing that sort of pigmentless soft exoskeleton texture, but these were scary to have on my page after I started doing new drawings. I had to hide them from view - I get arachnophobia now - it's unsettling.

I don't feel greatt about these portraits in particular, but I had fun with them anyway. I did 100 portraits! I will now focus on rendered paintings. I think I'll aim to alway incorporate the background in the piece. It's almost always better that way I think. ----- No drawings yesterday because I was freaked out by the passport ban from trump.

I feel good about these faces. I think the top two are kind of weak. I like my prozd drawing, but I don't think it looks like him very much. It looks a bit awkward because he was mid talking.

I drew a portrait at 3/4's looking down and had a lot of trouble so I focused more on that today. I feel like there's a set of important "learning senses", and I think I'm developing the comfort zone sense - where you are in touch with how comfortable you are mentally. It feels helpful for finding references that are worthwhile to study.

I am trying to get closer to being able to do finished pretty illustrations.

I'm happy with this! I'm feeling really happy and confident with drawing diverse faces. I'll say though that I haven't drawn many people on the older side.... Happy MLK day! Also sad day for the US and the world. Elon Musk did a nazi salute during the inauguration.
January 20, 2025 | studies;faces
I've gotten more comfortable with spending time on the faces and pushing shapes. Also, I'm finally putting my reference up onto the same screen as my canvas, and I'm finally able to draw without having the reference same size and right next to the image.
January 19, 2025 | study;faces
Sometimes there are faces that I feel like I don't need to do a study of - since they seem "solved" in my head. I realized this is completely not true and those are actually the difficult faces for me to draw.

I got through these really fast! Got a bit more comfortable with the screenless tablet. It's nice to have picked it up so fast. I think doing photo studies helps more than anything..... I also finally got around to getting a larger screen so no more bending forward and squinting!

More studying. I switched to my laptop, using a screenless tablet. It was definitely more comfortable. I also enjoy drawing people who are laughing and smiling. It's contagious and makes me happier.

I wish I could be quicker with faces. On average these took about 10-15 minutes. I think I probably spend at least 10 minutes between drawings just thinking and looking for a new portrait to draw. I have a lot of trouble with task switching, so I think I'll try to streamline my next drawing session by making a powerpoint with the references in a linear progression.

had fun with these. It's also weirdly good at expanding my view of what makes attractive/good looking faces? It's nice to see beauty standards that I don't usually inflict on myself.
January 13, 2025 | study;faces
Did these studies at the end of the day, 10 minutes each. I'd love to be more confident with my lines and brush economy.

I had fun with this one tbh. Gonna try and do faces for a while. There's an online portraiture class that I wanna take, and I want to get comfortable with drawing faces to see if I can get a ton out of the class.

I watched Sinixdesign's yearly recap video and got inspired to do this. It was fun to experiment with different brushes. Also it was a good time to focus on making things as vibrant as possible, while trying to keep it cohesive.
January 9, 2025 | painting;sketch
I loaded up some maps hoping to find fun places to sketch. I started on this one but kind of lost interest for some reason... Giving it a meh rating since I abandoned it. But not nothing since I stuck with it for much longer than I wanted to haha

YouTubeI started by sketching my friend's face as best as I could from memory, then I started losing focus so I just started scribbling nonsense and shapes.

I feel like I let out my feelings and energy on this day. I was really nervous since I was celebrating with my cousins. I tried channeling my nervous energy by making risky marks and carrying forward with shapes and color experiments. It's just a sketch though, haha. I saw the bob dylan movie with my cousins, it was fun.

I wish I hadn't tried using CMYK for this...

I made a fun sketch out of my head and then sat down and rendered it. I tried to push the colors as much as I could while staying in harmony.
December 19, 2024 | painting
I did this after realizing my rendering skills were out of touch. I didn't use a photo and the light kept changing, but I feel like I was able to capture what a photo couldn't.

Just did a bunch of hand drawings while I was on a call with some friends.

I was in my y2k mood and I was trying to distill what made hello kitty a distinct identity. (it's mostly in the eyes)

I tried submitting a character for Sinix's chromacorp cadet. I felt good since I'd been able to keep pushing myself despite not liking the piece. I think it turned out terribly but it was a big growth moment. I experimented a lot with vector art and I answered a prompt.

These were meh, still trying to figure out how to make colors pop.

Did this after studying cosimo galluzi's art

I was getting back into drawing and listening to ministry for the future. I wanted to improve my draftmanship skills. This was fun haha.

I did these paintings during spoon june. I had just taken Sinix's post-realism class and was trying out some stuff I learned.

I did this right when I started playing tears of the kingdom. Such a good game haha
June 6, 2023 | painting;portrait
I think this was during my post-realism class, although it could have also been during stylized portraiture. Definitely a week-1 homework with shape exploration.
June 5, 2023 | painting;sketch
I was really interested in Androidarts's revisions and sketching style. I did a bunch of these sketches and had a lot of fun.
September 23, 2022 | sketching;poststudy
I did these while testing out a color-changing brush. This was a concept from a world building project I worked on with a friend.
April 22, 2022 | conceptart;painting;sketching
I just wanted to try doing a study of a marble bust and then applying a fun texture to it.
April 6, 2022 | painting;study
I think I just wanted to have fun pushing colors into pixels.
March 24, 2022 | painting;sketching
These weren't studies of actual images, but I think I'd been looking at horses earlier and wanted to draw them from memory. You can kinda tell when you look at the bottom of the rendered horse haha
March 18, 2022 | study;painting
I'd just done a bunch of studies of Sparth, who worked on halo. I tried his layer-heavy approach to rendering and ideation.
March 8, 2022 | poststudy;painting
I was doing a ton of karl kopinski studies during the covid quarantines.
April 1, 2020 | poststudy;sketching
I was really into Ian Macque. I mistakenly found him when I misheard Ian Mccaig. I like his art though!
